Kay Nielsen
Translated by Rio Kishida
Published by Shinchokan

This is a Japanese translation of the Norwegian folktale "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" (1914) by Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen. The book reproduces the beautiful and enchanting illustrations that accompany the story in color gravure, and also introduces the text with many illustrations. The translation by Rio Kishida, a poet who was active at Shinchokan at the time, is also beautiful, and the design is also wonderful, with elegant elements such as three-column layout, color text, and endpapers used throughout. This is a book typical of Shinchokan in the 70s, with an air of elegance that makes you sigh throughout. Akio Uno designed the cover. The dust jacket sleeves also feature recommendations by Akio Uno and Hiroshi Aramata.

There is no obi, but there is no major damage.
